Cool, forgotten sites in the Wayback Machine

class="c"

Anyone who has any amount of respect for the past of the World Wide Web should be well aware of the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. If you don't, then never fear! Here's a quick explaination:

The Wayback Machine in a Web tool hosted by the Internet Archive, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving history and distributing it across the Internet. The Wayback Machine was built to download the source code and files of Webpages and rehost them on the Internet Archive's own servers. By doing so any time a change is made to the original page the Wayback Machine will host the original file, unmodified. Since 1996 the Wayback Machine has archived more than 341 BILLION webpages and their iterations as of November 2018.

As the Wayback Machine has been running for so long it's easy to accept that it contains archives of literally countless Websites that no long exist in any other form. The problem is that many of these Websites wern't popular to begin with, so when the servers went down, nobody ntoticed and/or cared, and the domains were quickly forgotten about and lost to time. As a result, many of the Websites archived in the Wayback Machine haven't seen the light of day for many years, sometimes even decades. That is why I have created this page, to provide a directory to any Websites archived in the Wayback Machine that have fallen off the face of The Earth, and have spent far too long in darkness.

Now it's time for you: it would be unthinkable for me to index everything that can be discovered, so if you happen to have found any archived Websites that are not listed here that you think should be listed here, send me an E-Mail at mailbag@gammamaxx.com with the subject "Wayback Machine".

The rules for submission are simple: leave a plain-text link to the site on the Wayback Machine with an explanation as to how you found it. If you wish to recieve credit clearly mark your name in the E-Mail as you wish to be credited. If your name is not family freindly (Crude and/or offensive language/terms, ect.) I will try to contact you to discuss a more suitable name of your choosing. If you do not calmly comply or I have no way of contacting you you will be credited as "*REDACTED*".

Here are the Websites that have been indexed thus far:

Emoticons on IRC, last updated November 9th, 1999

Reflections on the Goddess Gathering at Machu Picchu, November 29th, 1999

Y2K Newswire, Various updates, October 8th, 1999 listed

Alien Contact Kits, Last updated October 12, 1999

Art Work by Lynne Brooks-Korn, Feburary 10th, 1997

So far this is all there is, but I need some time to find more. Until then, take care and carry on.
